Wintry scenes on the streets of New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/new-york-snow-jan-2018-01.jpg\" alt=\"New York in the snow: photos of Manhattan streets , Jan 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jim, our resident New York snapper, took to the snowy streets of Manhattan yesterday to capture these dramatic views of the streets under snow as temperatures plummeted across the city.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/new-york-snow-jan-2018-02.jpg\" alt=\"New York in the snow: photos of Manhattan streets , Jan 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/new-york\/new-yorkers-brace-bomb-cyclone-snow-arrives-nyc-article-1.3736783\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NY Daily News<\/a> summed up conditions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The year&#8217;s first snowstorm blasted the city with a wind-whipped wintry wallop Thursday, paralyzing local airports and highways as already bitter temperatures plunged.<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,000 flights at the area\u2019s three major airports were scratched as a foot of snow fell in parts of Queens, where the blizzard brought winds of close to 50 mph.<\/p>\n<p>The snow dropped at the rapid rate of 2 inches per hour, beginning early in the morning, and dissipating by sundown in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>More than 11 inches coated the Bronx and Brooklyn, while Rego Park in Queens received 13 inches, and 10 inches fell in Staten Island\u2019s Great Kills. On Long Island, where the whirling snow reduced visibility to almost zero on the Long Island Expressway, gusts of more than 60 mph blasted through Nassau and Suffolk counties.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/new-york-snow-jan-2018-03.jpg\" alt=\"New York in the snow: photos of Manhattan streets , Jan
