Both racing pigeon enthusiasts, the birds were transported with the help of a converted old pram chassis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-09.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-10.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-08.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Cluny\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Cluny<\/a> occupies a former flax spinning mill, and has an award winning bar and two live venues, the Cluny and the Cluny 2.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-11.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were playing the Cluny 2 venue, which used to be the Round Theatre.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-12.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Opposite the venue is the wonderful Ship Inn, a traditional pub serving fabulous ales and an outstanding vegan menu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-13.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside the bustling Ship Inn.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-14.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To the right can be seen the cunning\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gateshead_Millennium_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gateshead Millennium Bridge<\/a>, a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne.<\/p>\n<p>Opened for public use in 2001, the award-winning structure was designed by architect WilkinsonEyre and structural engineer Gifford. The bridge is sometimes referred to as the &#8216;Blinking Eye Bridge&#8217; or the &#8216;Winking Eye Bridge&#8217; due to its shape and its tilting method.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-15.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My old chum Helen McCookeryBook opened for the band. passing the castle that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Castle,_Newcastle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gave the city its name<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-26.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Walking across the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Level_Bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High Level Bridge<\/a>, a road and railway bridge spanning the River Tyne between Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead.<\/p>\n<p>A grade one listed structure, it is considered the most notable historical engineering work in the city, and was built by the Hawks family from 5,050 tons of iron.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Robert Stephenson to form a rail link towards Scotland for the developing English railway network, the bridge was officially opened by Queen Victoria in 1849.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-27.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bridge is also blighted by &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/new-york-city-joins-the-global-war-on-the-love-padlock-craze-and-orders-them-off-brooklyn-bridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">love locks<\/a>.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/newcastle-photos-28.jpg\" alt=\"Newcastle photos: bridges, graffiti, bars, homing pigeons and The Monochrome Set, April 2018\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bridge is reminiscent of New York&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/a-photo-walk-across-williamsburg-bridge-from-brooklyn-into-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williamsburg Bridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img which is ranked as the tenth tallest structure in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Tyne Bridge was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson, comparably to their Sydney Harbour Bridge version. These bridges derived their design from the Hell Gate Bridge in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge was completed on 25 February 1928, and officially opened on 10 October by King George V and Queen Mary, who were the first to use the roadway, travelling in their Ascot landau.
