We were in Barcelona last year for the Monochrome Set show<\/a>, and the next day we witnessed a host of fascinating public events taking place around the city centre as part of La Merc\u00e8 Festival<\/a>, including this display by the Castellers (Human Towers):<\/p>\n

This event is one of the highlights of the Merc\u00e8 festival and takes place in Pla\u00e7a de Jaume. Thousands of people will pack out the square so it is worth arriving early.<\/p>\n

The aim of the Castellers is to build a human tower and have a young child climb to the top of the tower and stand up. It requires a tremendous amount of planning and teamwork to build a human tower and it is quite an amazing sight to see. Afterwards, children paraded around on the shoulders of adults, all waving coloured scarves.<\/p>\n
