href=\"https:\/\/www.brixtonbuzz.com\/?s=park+photos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">within three miles of Brixto<\/a>n, but this time I&#8217;ve travelled further afar and taken a look around Gordon Square, a small green space in Bloomsbury.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/gordon-square-02.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Gordon Square park, Bloomsbury, central London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Owned by the University of London, the park is part of the Bedford Estate and was designed as one of a pair with the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tavistock_Square\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tavistock Squar<\/a>e which has the same dimensions .<\/p>\n<p>The square was developed by master builder Thomas Cubitt in the 1820s, with the central garden originally for the private use of the residents of the surrounding houses.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Named after the second wife of the 6th Duke of Bedford, Lady Georgiana Gordon, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon,\u00a0 the square was <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">refurbished in 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/gordon-square-04.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Gordon Square park, Bloomsbury, central London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/london.ac.uk\/about-us\/history-university-london\/gordon-square\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">university website<\/a> has details about the park&#8217;s literary and art connections:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Gordon Square is often considered the centre of the infamous Bloomsbury Group, the set of English writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Bloomsbury Group\u2019s \u2018Thursday evenings\u2019 began at 46 Gordon Square, where friends including Leonard Woolf, Lytton Strachey, Clive Bell, David Garnett, Duncan Grant, John Maynard Keynes, Roger Fry and Saxon Sidney-Turner would join Virginia and Vanessa Stephen at their home for recitals and conversations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After marrying Clive and Vanessa Bell lived at number 46 until 1917, when economist John Maynard Keynes moved in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Writer and biographer Lytton Strachey lived at number 51 from 1909-24, while his brother James lived at number 41 from 1919-56, with his wife Alix.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
