Unveiled last week, this wonderful light installation on the front of Tate Britain – which is currently back in lockdown – celebrates Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.<\/p>\n

Entitled \u2018Remembering a Brave New World\u2019 and created by Chila Kumari Burman, the installation is a heap of fun,\u00a0 mixing ‘n’mashing references to Bollywood, mythology, pop culture and feminism.<\/p>\n

On her website<\/a>, Chila Kumari Burman explains her work:<\/p>\n Since the mid-1980s I have been exploring the experiences and aesthetics of Asian femininity in paintings and installations, photography and printmaking, video and film.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In my more recent works, this theme has taken on a new power and vibrancy.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I am currently making a new body of work to draw all of these together and to develop the ideas and images contained in the new cultural contexts of national and international politics in the twenty-first century.<\/p>\n Challenging stereotypical assumptions of Asian women, my work is informed by popular culture, Bollywood, fashion, found objects, the politics of fe<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The installation can be seen up to the end of January 2021.<\/p>\n And below is how it looks in the day time (as seen from across the Thames):<\/p>\n It’s fun, free, cheerful, colourful and a welcome antidote to a thoroughly crappy 2020.
