luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-01.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once a vital London power station fuelled by Welsh coal, Battersea Power Station is now undergoing the full luxury redevelopment treatment,\u00a0 offering unaffordable apartments and &#8220;world-class bars and restaurants, interspersed with the finest British and global retail brands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We passed the site on a chilly evening and took a look around.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-02.jpg\" alt=\"Coal Drops Yard\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No less than 253 toe-curlingly expensive apartments are being squeezed into the iconic superstructure of the power station.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/batterseapowerstation.co.uk\/residential-sales\/the-power-station\">project website<\/a> delivers the requisite blather:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The architects WilkinsonEyre approached the redevelopment of the Power Station with the requisite amount of care \u2013 paying homage to its history but infusing it with a 21st-century sensibility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Michaelis Boyd\u2019s interiors resonate with this original, irrepressible character, striking the right balance between energy, calm and the building\u2019s former life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-03.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On-trend breweries and restaurants are located round the railway arches surrounding the power station.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-04.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-05.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While new access to riverside views is welcomed, it should be noted that it&#8217;s more of the same security-patrolled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/cities\/2017\/jul\/24\/revealed-pseudo-public-space-pops-london-investigation-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pseudo-public space<\/a> &#8211; as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/kings-cross-coal-drop-yards-the-lighthouse-and-regents-canal-fifty-photos\/\">seen in the King\u2019s Cross Coal Drop Yards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-06.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-07.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although it was splendidly decked out in festive Christmas trees and lights, the Winter Village &#8211; located on the Grade II-listed Coaling Jetty on the River Thames &#8211; had become a casualty of covid-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/battersea-power-station-2020-08.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: Battersea Power Station redevelopment - luxury flats, trendy shops and security guards\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s more marketing wank from the project website, complete with the requisite references to vibrancy and artisans:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The neighbourhood has been carefully curated to be a thriving quarter right on the River Thames.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The vibrant Circus West Village already features world-class bars and restaurants, interspersed with the finest British and global retail brands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A place where technology giants mingle with local artisans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The addition of Electric Boulevard looks set to create an irresistible shopping and leisure destination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Battersea Power Station is the most happening place to be, on the banks on the River Thames.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a place like no other.
