last week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-river-thames-at-low-tide-mudlarkers-sunbathers-and-bridges-30-photos\/\">walk along the south bank of the Thames<\/a>, I returned to take a stroll along the north bank at low tide.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/north-bank-thames-03.jpg\" alt=\"The north bank of at low tide: bridges, chains, nets and some mudlarking\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mudlarkers should have no problem finding the discarded stems of broken clay pipes.<\/p>\n<p>They were so cheap to make that they were one-use disposable items, often sold prefilled with tobacco (known as &#8216;Penny Pipes&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>Once the tobacco had been smoked, there was no further use for the pipe, and it was common to snap off the head before throwing it into the Thames.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/north-bank-thames-14.jpg\" alt=\"The north bank of the Thames at low tide: bridges, chains, nets and some mudlarking\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Offering a similar kind of one-hit use, mudlarkers of the future will no doubt have no problem locating discarded nitrous
