Pomeroy and Alfred Drury, they designed four apiece, with Pomeroy completing the ones up stream; <em>Agriculture<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Architecture<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Engineering<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Pottery<\/em>) and Drury down stream (<em>Education<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Fine Arts<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Science<\/em> and <em>Local Government.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/thames-walk-sept-2022-04.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: A walk besides the Thames from Vauxhall to Hungerford Bridge, Sept 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking over the mini-Manhattan that has sprung up around Vauxhall and Nine Elms.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/thames-walk-sept-2022-05.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: A walk besides the Thames from Vauxhall to Hungerford Bridge, Sept 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The current bridge opened in 1906, designed in a joint effort by Sir Alexander Binnie and Maurice Fitzmaurice, built by London County Council (LCC) engineers, replacing a bridge built on the same spot between 1809 and 1816.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/thames-walk-sept-2022-06.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: A walk besides the Thames from Vauxhall to Hungerford Bridge, Sept 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ssssch! It&#8217;s the secret MI6 building, which houses the headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS, MI6).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/SIS_Building\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikipedia<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The site is rumoured to include a tunnel under the Thames from the building to Whitehall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The numerous layers over which the building is laid out create 60 separate roof areas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>25 different types of glass were used in the building, with 130,000 square feet (12,000 m2) of glass and aluminium used in the building&#8217;s construction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The windows in the SIS building are triple glazed for security purposes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Due to the sensitive nature of MI6&#8217;s work, large parts of the building are below street level, with numerous underground corridors serving the building. Amenities for staff include a sports hall, gymnasium, aerobics studio, a squash court and a restaurant. The building also features two moats for protection.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/thames-walk-sept-2022-07.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: A walk besides the Thames from Vauxhall to Hungerford Bridge, Sept 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seagulls assemble by the north-western side of Vauxhall bridge.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/thames-walk-sept-2022-08.jpg\" alt=\"In photos: A walk besides the Thames from Vauxhall to Hungerford Bridge, Sept 2022\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new luxury development springs up next to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/st-george-wharf-tower-the-vauxhall-tower-in-south-london-nears-completion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St George Wharf Tower<\/a> (on the right).<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, that tower is already linked to two deaths after a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vauxhall_helicopter_crash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helicopter crashed into the crane<\/a>\u00a0at the top of the\u00a0construction\u00a0in January 2013.
