{"id":222,"date":"2008-10-14T00:20:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-14T00:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=222"},"modified":"2008-10-14T00:20:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-14T00:20:00","slug":"the-mystery-of-the-brixton-road-footbridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-mystery-of-the-brixton-road-footbridge\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mystery of the Brixton Road footbridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It started with a request by Paulie for a photo of the old footbridge in Brixton on the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"external link\" border=\"0\" height=\"8\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/images\/web1.gif\" width=\"8\" \/> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.net\/vbulletin\/showthread.php?t=257061\" target=\"_blank\">urban75 bulletin boards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The request was met by such head scratching that posters began to fear that he&#8217;d dreamt the entire thing up because no one seemed to recall the bridge existing.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of forthcoming photographic proof, Paulie continued to describe the old bridge:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"quote\" height=\"12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/images\/quot1.gif\" width=\"20\" \/>The bridge was pretty much on top of the pedestrian crossing which was always there (and which most people opted for). I think it survived until the mid 70s. It was a girder monstrosity with big planks laid across for the steps and bridge span &#8211; they flexed a fair bit when a bus went underneath. <\/p>\n<p>To give a more accurate placing &#8211; it ran between Tunstall Road and the tube with the stairs at right angles on the south side.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"quote\" height=\"12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/images\/quot2.gif\" width=\"20\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Brixton Footbridge, Brixton Road, London SW9.
