{"id":2317,"date":"2010-09-14T14:15:57","date_gmt":"2010-09-14T13:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=2317"},"modified":"2010-09-14T16:59:09","modified_gmt":"2010-09-14T15:59:09","slug":"a-walk-along-lower-marsh-waterloo-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/a-walk-along-lower-marsh-waterloo-london\/","title":{"rendered":"A walk along Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/lower-marsh-waterloo-1.jpg\" alt=\"A walk along Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I like Lower Marsh in Waterloo.<\/p>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s smack bang in the centre of London, with the bustling railway station just yards away, it retains a 1960s feel, with traditional old school shops and cafes rubbing shoulders with chi-chi new interlopers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/lower-marsh-waterloo-2.jpg\" alt=\"A walk along Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With its sign displaying a telephone number that is at least 15 years out of date (071 numbers <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Telephone_numbers_in_the_United_Kingdom\" target=\"_blank\">vanished in 1995<\/a>), the gloriously named Chunnel Bar bears the nickname of the Channel Tunnel, which opened in 1994 and ran to Waterloo station until 2007.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/lower-marsh-waterloo-3.jpg\" alt=\"A walk along Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s been a street market on Lower Marsh since the mid-nineteenth century.
