In the June of 2009, we spent a week in the lovely Fforest campsite<\/a> near Cardigan, west Wales, and being the railway spod I am, I simply had to find out what remained of the old Cardigan railway terminus<\/a>, which closed\u00a0completely in 1963\u00a0.<\/p>\n

We walked to the old station and discovered that there was a\u00a0surprising\u00a0number of railway features still intact, including the goods shed – complete with original canopy – and some of the\u00a0original\u00a0platform.<\/p>\n

Here’s a similar view of the station from 1958. \u00a0You can see the goods shed to the right, with the\u00a0single\u00a0passenger platform to the left.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0the line ran through\u00a0beautifully\u00a0picturesque\u00a0countryside, the winding terrain and tight curves meant that train speeds averaged \u00a0as low as 15mph from Cardigan to Whitland.
