{"id":2712,"date":"2010-11-13T20:03:54","date_gmt":"2010-11-13T20:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=2712"},"modified":"2010-11-13T20:04:53","modified_gmt":"2010-11-13T20:04:53","slug":"wandsworth-town-station-in-the-early-evening-rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/wandsworth-town-station-in-the-early-evening-rain\/","title":{"rendered":"Wandsworth Town station in the early evening rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wandsworth-town-station-02.jpg\" alt=\"Wandsworth Town station in the early evening rain\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With its street level\u00a0buildings\u00a0suffering\u00a0a fairly ghastly\u00a0rebuilding in the not so distant past, Wandsworth Town railway station is a bit of a\u00a0Spartan\u00a0affair.<\/p>\n<p>Although the island platform has some attractive original\u00a0buildings\u00a0and retains its long canopy, London-bound \u00a0travellers are rather more exposed to the\u00a0elements.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>No canopy, no dry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The platform\u00a0canopy has long vanished leaving\u00a0commuters\u00a0the choice of either\u00a0huddling by the entrance to the stairs when it rains, or herding into \u00a0a tiny, characterless modern structure\u00a0further\u00a0along the platform.<\/p>\n<p>With no room in either, I stood in the pouring rain and grabbed a couple of snaps while I waited for the delayed 17:14 train into Vauxhall.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wandsworth-town-station-03.jpg\" alt=\"Wandsworth Town station in the early evening rain\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wandsworth-town-station-01.jpg\" alt=\"Wandsworth Town station in the early evening rain\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My train arrives.
