{"id":2758,"date":"2010-11-21T17:09:03","date_gmt":"2010-11-21T17:09:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=2758"},"modified":"2010-11-21T17:09:03","modified_gmt":"2010-11-21T17:09:03","slug":"brixton-village-now-open-on-sundays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/brixton-village-now-open-on-sundays\/","title":{"rendered":"Brixton Village: now open on Sundays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/brixton-village-sunday.jpg\" alt=\"Brixton Village: now open on Sundays\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The success story of Brixton Village continues, with the formerly run down indoor market enjoying a real resurgence &#8211; and now opening on Sundays for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/brixton-village-sunday-1.jpg\" alt=\"Brixton Village: now open on Sundays\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Formerly known as Granville Arcade, the market resisted a massively unpopular\u00a0redevelopment proposal by owners\u00a0London &amp; Associated Properties in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme would have seen the current buildings replaced with a 10 storey, privately owned residential tower block and private park, slapped on top of a new market building.<\/p>\n<p>Friends of Brixton Market, traders and residents ran a successful campaign against the proposals, which was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.net\/vbulletin\/threads\/272958-Brixton-Market-redevelopment\" target=\"_blank\">debated and discussed on our bulletin boards<\/a>.
