{"id":2925,"date":"2010-12-22T10:45:11","date_gmt":"2010-12-22T10:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=2925"},"modified":"2010-12-22T00:58:34","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T00:58:34","slug":"remembering-77-the-hyde-park-memorial-to-the-fallen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/remembering-77-the-hyde-park-memorial-to-the-fallen\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering 7\/7: the Hyde Park memorial to the fallen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/7-7-memorial-hyde-park-01.jpg\" alt=\"Remembering 7\/7: the Hyde park memorial to the fallen\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Commemorating\u00a0the terrible events of the 7th July, 2005, \u00a0this permanent memorial in Hyde Park honours the 52 victims of the London Bombings.<\/p>\n<p>Unveiled exactly four years after 7\/7 on\u00a07th July, 2009, the memorial stands between Lover&#8217;s Walk (at the eastern edge of the park) and Park Lane in central London.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/7-7-memorial-hyde-park-02.jpg\" alt=\"Remembering 7\/7: the Hyde park memorial to the fallen\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The memorial is made up of \u00a052 stainless steel pillars, collectively representing the 52 victims, with the\u00a0pillars\u00a0grouped together in four inter-linking clusters to echo the four different geographical locations of the bombs (King&#8217;s Cross, Aldgate, Edgware Road, and Tavistock Square).<\/p>\n<p>All the pillars are 3.5 metres high and cast from solid stainless steel by Sheffield foundry, Norton Cast Products, using a casting\u00a0process\u00a0that gives each one a unique finish.<\/p>\n<p>Produced by a design team including architects Carmody Groarke and engineering team Arup, the memorial&#8217;s design process was overseen by representatives of the bereaved families.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/7-7-memorial-hyde-park-03.jpg\" alt=\"Remembering 7\/7: the Hyde park memorial to the fallen\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Visitors are encouraged to walk around and through the memorial, reading the inscriptions that mark the date, time and locations of the bombings.
