{"id":3025,"date":"2011-01-03T10:22:03","date_gmt":"2011-01-03T10:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=3025"},"modified":"2011-01-03T10:22:03","modified_gmt":"2011-01-03T10:22:03","slug":"shard-london-bridge-at-night-jan-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/shard-london-bridge-at-night-jan-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Shard London bridge at night, Jan 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-01.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been fascinated by the sight of the Shard London Bridge slowly rising up, and have enjoyed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-london-shard-at-london-bridge-london-se1-continues-to-soars\/\">documenting the various stages of its construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I walked past the tower last night, and grabbed a few more pics as I shimmied across London Bridge.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-02.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Shard passed the 235 metres (771 ft) mark at the end of November, taking the title of Britain&#8217;s tallest building from One Canada Square (in Canary Wharf) &#8211; an honour it had held for 18 years.<br \/>\nThe Shard&#8217;s concrete core has now topped out at level 72, standing at 245 metres (804 ft), although there is still a fair way to go, with the tower eventually reaching 1,017 ft (310 m) tall.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-03.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking south from London Bridge.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-04.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a nice seasonal twist, the sides of the Shard were quite literally lit up like a Christmas tree!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-05.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-07.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/the-london-shard-night-jan-2011-08.jpg\" alt=\"The London Shard at night, Jan 2011\" \/><\/p>\n<p>View from the approach to London Bridge station.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and in case you&#8217;re wondering, yes it was me interviewed on the BBC News in December about the Shard!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still not\u00a0entirely\u00a0sure what I was doing there, but I was able to share my specialist architectural\u00a0knowledge\u00a0to inform readers that the tallest building in Europe will indeed &#8220;be a landmark.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been fascinated by the sight of the Shard London Bridge slowly rising up, and have enjoyed documenting the various stages of its construction.
