{"id":350,"date":"2008-01-09T15:38:00","date_gmt":"2008-01-09T15:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=350"},"modified":"2008-01-09T15:38:00","modified_gmt":"2008-01-09T15:38:00","slug":"sailors-snug-harbor-staten-island-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/sailors-snug-harbor-staten-island-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"Sailors&#8217; Snug Harbor, Staten Island, NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/newyork\/images\/sailors-snug-harbor-06.jpg\" alt=\"Sailors' Snug Harbor &amp; Staten Island\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we were in New York last month, we took the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/newyork\/staten-island-ferry.html\">free ferry out of Manhattan<\/a> to Staten Island and braved an icy walk to visit the Sailors&#8217; Snug Harbor &#8211; an old institute for &#8216;aged, decrepit and worn-out sailors.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/newyork\/images\/sailors-snug-harbor-26.jpg\" alt=\"Sailors' Snug Harbor &amp; Staten Island\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The site &#8211; which was nearly flattened in the 60s &#8211; now serves as a Culture Centre, and is a fun place to visit.
