{"id":3776,"date":"2011-03-19T12:48:55","date_gmt":"2011-03-19T12:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=3776"},"modified":"2011-03-19T12:48:55","modified_gmt":"2011-03-19T12:48:55","slug":"londons-288m-pinnacle-tower-gets-back-on-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/londons-288m-pinnacle-tower-gets-back-on-track\/","title":{"rendered":"London&#8217;s 288m Pinnacle Tower gets back on track"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/pinnacle-tower-london-01.jpg\" alt=\"London's 288m Pinnacle Tower gets back on track\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0reaching\u00a0just six floors high, work stalled on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bishopsgate_Tower\" target=\"_blank\">Pinnacle Tower<\/a> (formerly known as the Bishopsgate Tower) last year after a half-billion pound shortfall in funding looked set to consign the project into oblivion.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>However, this week Arab Investments have announced that they they&#8217;ve managed to rustle up the readies so construction work can resume shortly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/pinnacle-tower-london-02.jpg\" alt=\"London's 288m Pinnacle Tower gets back on track\" width=\"296\" height=\"402\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently\u00a0drawing\u00a0its inspiration from &#8220;naturally occurring patterns in things like shells, mushrooms and other zoomorphic objects that regularly occur in nature&#8221; (<em>you what?!<\/em>), the tower will reach out\u00a0288 metres into the London skyline, making it the second tallest tower in the UK and Western Europe (the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-london-shard-at-london-bridge-london-se1-continues-to-soars\/\">Shard skyscraper<\/a> currently has the honour of being #1).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solar&#8217;d to the max<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyscrapernews.com\/news.php?ref=2805\" target=\"_blank\">skyscraper news<\/a>, the building will pack more photovoltaic solar cells than any other building in the UK, with its 2,000 square metres of panelling delivering 200 kilowatts of electricity.<\/p>\n<p>The project should be finished in 2013, ahead of both the rival\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-52-storey-cheesegrater-tower-at-122-leadenhall-starts\/\">Cheesegrater<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/walkie-talkie-tower-fenchurch-st-crackles-into-life\/\">Walkie-Talkie<\/a> towers.<\/p>\n<p>I love these daft names given to skyscrapers!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After\u00a0reaching\u00a0just six floors high, work stalled on the Pinnacle Tower (formerly known as the Bishopsgate Tower) last year after a half-billion pound shortfall in funding looked set to consign the &hellip;
