by former NYC major Rudi Guliana in 1999, the annual\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nathan%27s_Hot_Dog_Eating_Contest\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan&#8217;s Hot Dog Eating Contest<\/a> has been held at this location since the early 1970.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/nathans-delicatessen-coney-island-03.jpg\" alt=\"Hot dogs at Nathan's Delicatessen, Coney Island, New York, USA\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/nathans-delicatessen-coney-island-04.jpg\" alt=\"Hot dogs at Nathan's Delicatessen, Coney Island, New York, USA\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/nathans-delicatessen-coney-island-05.jpg\" alt=\"Hot dogs at Nathan's Delicatessen, Coney Island, New York, USA\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Things have been changing fast at Coney Island in recent years, with\u00a0the first new rollercoasters to be built at there for more than 80 years opening as part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/Four-New-Roller-Coasters-Open-on-Coney-Island-120292464.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a390 million regeneration project<\/a> for the world-famous theme park.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, that same project has seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnyc.org\/articles\/wnyc-news\/2010\/nov\/06\/gathering-share-memories-favorite-boardwalk-spots\/\" target=\"_blank\">long term\u00a0tenants\u00a0being booted off<\/a> as landlords look <a href=\"http:\/\/gothamist.com\/2010\/11\/03\/rubys_to_reopen_saturday_for_rally.php\" target=\"_blank\">for more lucrative businesses<\/a> to take over the traditional sea front stalls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first of a chain of US fast food restaurants specialising in hot dogs, the original Nathan&#8217;s restaurant stands at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island.\u00a0Al &hellip;
