{"id":4484,"date":"2011-06-11T10:00:36","date_gmt":"2011-06-11T09:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=4484"},"modified":"2011-07-25T19:27:10","modified_gmt":"2011-07-25T18:27:10","slug":"wild-and-wood-coffee-new-oxford-street-wc1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/wild-and-wood-coffee-new-oxford-street-wc1\/","title":{"rendered":"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-01.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ever since the demise of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/photographers-gallery.html\" target=\"_blank\">Photographers Gallery<\/a>, I&#8217;ve been looking out for new cafes in central London. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/yumchaa-tea-rooms-soho-possibly-the-finest-tea-in-london\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yumchaa<\/a> is probably still my favourite, but this small cafe by close to the\u00a0hustle\u00a0and bustle of Tottenham Court Road and Centre Point is worth a visit.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-02.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The interior is made up of well-worn wood panelling bedecked with quirky photos and postcards from a bygone age (any cafe with photos of Ena Sharples, Arthur Lowe and\u00a0Leslie Phillips is alright by me).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-03.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The coffee certainly delivered, with the bijou cafe serving up the mighty Monmouth coffee brand, along with a good selection of cakes (from Villandry and Clarke&#8217;s of Kensington) and foccacias, croissants, ciabattas and baguettes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-04.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-05.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To the left as you come in is The Nook, an intimate space offering seating for six (at a push).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/wild-and-wood-coffee-london-06.jpg\" alt=\"Wild and Wood coffee,  New Oxford Street WC1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Service was speedy, although the girl serving wasn&#8217;t exactly the friendliest I&#8217;ve encountered. Maybe it was down to her limited English skills, but the interaction could best be described as &#8216;business-like.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>That aside, I liked this cafe &#8211; it&#8217;s unpretentious, there was a nice supply of newspapers on hand to flick\u00a0through\u00a0and the cake and coffee were excellent.
