{"id":4579,"date":"2011-06-27T10:30:31","date_gmt":"2011-06-27T09:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=4579"},"modified":"2011-06-27T10:48:39","modified_gmt":"2011-06-27T09:48:39","slug":"beach-walking-and-dune-jumping-at-oxwich-bay-gower-south-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/beach-walking-and-dune-jumping-at-oxwich-bay-gower-south-wales\/","title":{"rendered":"Beach walking and dune jumping at Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-06.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the Gower&#8217;s most popular beaches, Oxwich Bay is a great little place to spend a few hours by the sea in south Wales.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The beach was declared\u00a0&#8216;the most beautiful in Britain&#8217; by <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/wales\/south_west\/6375469.stm\" target=\"_blank\">Travel Mag<\/a> in 2007, who praised the 2.5 mile long stretch of sand for its \u00a0&#8220;magnificent and unspoilt&#8221; scenery and\u00a0wonderful pale sand, with safe, shallow seas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-02.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a small shop selling beach stuff &#8211; so you can grab that all-important bucket and spade that you forgot to pack &#8211; as well as the essential ice creams.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-01.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The area features sand dunes, salt marshes and woodland and is a\u00a0popular\u00a0place for swimming and watersports including diving, sailing, water skiing and windsurfing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-03.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a great walk on offer across the vast expanse of sand towards Tor Bay and Three Cliffs Bay &#8211; and if you get there at low tide, you can walk across to Pobbles Bay.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-05.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-07.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-08.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxwich_Bay\" target=\"_blank\">submarine cables<\/a> leave the mainland of Britain from Oxwich, including the SOLAS cable across the Irish Sea, and the TAT-11 and Gemini North transatlantic telephone cables<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-09.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/oxwich-beach-south-wales-13.jpg\" alt=\"A trip to Oxwich Bay, Gower, south Wales\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I was a kid we used to camp around the Gower, and I loved jumping off the high sand dunes.
