Yesterday was a bit of a strange one.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/wales\/images\/cardiff-01.jpg\" alt=\"Cardiff Caroline Street\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I woke up in Cardiff after coming up the night before for my grandmother&#8217;s funeral.<\/p>\n<p>It was a crisp and sunny winter&#8217;s morning which soon cleared the hangover from the previous night&#8217;s family drink.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The preacher taking the service had one of those rich, deep and expressive Welsh accents that nearly managed to summon up a few religious feelings in me (trust me, normally that&#8217;s a near impossible task).<\/p>\n<p>We sang &#8216;Bread of Heaven&#8217; &#8211; a beautifully passionate song firmly linked with Wales &#8211; and &#8216;Morning is Broken&#8217; which always makes me think of Cat Stevens and school assemblies.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/wales\/images\/cardiff-02.jpg\" alt=\"Cardiff\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We followed the funeral cort\u00e8ge up to the crematorium and waited outside in the bitter cold. I wished I hadn&#8217;t looked up to see a puff of dark smoke coming out of the chimney.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony of commitment was short and nicely handed. The Welsh choir played at the end added a poignant touch. RIP Linda.<\/p>\n<p>After an hour or so in Pantmawr pub caught the train back to London and straight up to JAMM for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\">Offline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/images\/offline37_05.jpg\" alt=\"Offline Brixton\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was worried that it would be a really quiet one, but there was a healthy crowd there and the acts were fantastic.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/images\/offline37_10.jpg\" alt=\"Offline Brixton\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of special note was Joe Cairo&#8217;s poetry set &#8211; hilarious, dark and throwaway at the same time &#8211; and two blinding performances by Parisian jazz outfit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingscrosshotclub.com\/\">Kings Cross Hot Club<\/a> and hi energy ska band, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebighand.co.uk\/\">Big Hand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fantastic fun.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/offline37.html\">See the photos<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blimey.
