{"id":4892,"date":"2011-08-16T14:34:28","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T13:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=4892"},"modified":"2011-08-17T02:27:47","modified_gmt":"2011-08-17T01:27:47","slug":"brixtons-riot-love-wall-fails-to-engage-locals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/brixtons-riot-love-wall-fails-to-engage-locals\/","title":{"rendered":"Brixton&#8217;s riot &#8216;love wall&#8217; fails to engage locals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/one-love-brixton-04.jpg\" alt=\"One Love, Brixton - graffiti on riot-trashed store\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Maybe Brixtonites are just too cool to bother posting up positive messages on the hoardings outside a riot-devastated building &#8211; or maybe no one really cared much for the burnt out store in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Either way, the &#8216;Brixton Wall&#8217; around the fire-damaged Footlocker store in central Brixton has certainly failed to capture the imagination of locals with no messages being added since the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/one-love-brixton-graffiti-on-riot-trashed-store\/\" target=\"_blank\">One Love Brixton&#8217; graffiti went up<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/one-love-brixton-05.jpg\" alt=\"One Love, Brixton - graffiti on riot-trashed store\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a different story in Peckham where a local theatre company created a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-london-14521216\" target=\"_blank\">wall of love<\/a>\u201d for local residents to highlight the positive aspects of the area.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of people quickly filled the wall with uplifting messages about the area on multi-coloured post-it notes, and it&#8217;s proved such a hit that the wall is going to be\u00a0preserved.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/one-love-brixton-06.jpg\" alt=\"One Love, Brixton - graffiti on riot-trashed store\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brixtonites don&#8217;t seem to have responded with the same level of enthusiasm &#8211; this is the sum total of\u00a0messages\u00a0thus far (although\u00a0a bit of paper with a Facebook &#8216;like&#8217;\u00a0graphic\u00a0was spotted briefly on the wall).<\/p>\n<p>Not quite sure what &#8220;<em>I &lt;diamond&gt; my Brixton<\/em>&#8221; means, either!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/one-love-brixton-07.jpg\" alt=\"One Love, Brixton - graffiti on riot-trashed store\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Your opinion wanted!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What do you think of the wall?
