{"id":5090,"date":"2011-09-19T10:30:27","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T09:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=5090"},"modified":"2011-09-18T17:36:14","modified_gmt":"2011-09-18T16:36:14","slug":"dancing-in-the-middle-of-the-river-thames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/dancing-in-the-middle-of-the-river-thames\/","title":{"rendered":"Dancing in the middle of the River Thames"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/dancing-in-the-river-thames-01.jpg\" alt=\"Dancing in the middle of the River Thames\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yes it&#8217;s true! \u00a0The lovely E really is dancing in\u00a0the middle\u00a0of the River Thames, although anyone hoping for a dramatic water-splashing,\u00a0leg kicking scene in the\u00a0middle\u00a0of a busy waterway is going to be disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>This photo was taken close to the source of the Thames near Kemble in the Cotswolds and as you can see, the river is completely dried up.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/dancing-in-the-river-thames-02.jpg\" alt=\"Dancing in the middle of the River Thames\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With a total length of 346 km (215 miles), the Thames is the longest river entirely in England and the second longest river in the UK (second only to the River Severn).<\/p>\n<p>On its way to the Thames Estuary near Southend-on-Sea, the Thames flows\u00a0through major towns and cities like Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames, Windsor, Hampton Court, Surbiton, Kingston, Teddington, Twickenham\u00a0and of course, central London.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/dancing-in-the-river-thames-03.jpg\" alt=\"Dancing in the middle of the River Thames\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this\u00a0September 2011 view, there&#8217;s ne&#8217;er a drop of water to be seen. In this picture, I&#8217;m looking towards the source of the Thames, with the Thames Path running to the right.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s been some\u00a0academic\u00a0quibbling\u00a0about where the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/River_Thames#Course_of_the_river\" target=\"_blank\">actual source of the Thames lies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Most agree that it is at <a href=\"http:\/\/g.co\/maps\/quqnq\" target=\"_blank\">Thames Head<\/a>, about a mile north of the village of Kemble in southern Gloucestershire, near the market town of Cirencester.
