{"id":5257,"date":"2011-10-12T16:34:36","date_gmt":"2011-10-12T15:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=5257"},"modified":"2011-10-12T16:45:47","modified_gmt":"2011-10-12T15:45:47","slug":"the-timeless-georgian-architecture-at-bedford-square-bloomsbury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/the-timeless-georgian-architecture-at-bedford-square-bloomsbury\/","title":{"rendered":"The timeless Georgian architecture of Bedford Square, Bloomsbury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/bedford-square-london.jpg\" alt=\"Talk a walk into Georgian London at Bedford Square, Bloomsbury\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is one of my\u00a0favourite\u00a0parts of central London, and on a Sunday afternoon &#8211; when the endless roar of traffic subsides &#8211; it&#8217;s easy to imagine how it might have been back in Georgian times.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/bedford-square-london-1.jpg\" alt=\"Talk a walk into Georgian London at Bedford Square, Bloomsbury\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wrote a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/bedford-square.html\" target=\"_blank\">feature about the history of the square<\/a> a while ago &#8211; here&#8217;s an excerpt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Situated in Bloomsbury, between the electronics Mecca of Tottenham Court Road and the British Museum, Bedford Square was built between 1775 and 1783 as an upmarket residential area.<\/p>\n<p>The best example of an exquisitely preserved Georgian square in London, it&#8217;s a great place to grab a quiet lunchtime sandwich (but you&#8217;ll only be able to enviously gaze at the garden in the centre as it remains privately owned).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When I visited the square last December it looked uber-Christmassy, with the snow lending it a real Dickensian feel.
