In Spitalfields, London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Standing atop a stack of packing crates in\u00a0Bishop\u2019s Square in Spitalfields, is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artdaily.org\/index.asp?int_sec=2&amp;int_new=36147\" target=\"_blank\">Kenny Hunter\u2019s\u00a0<em>I Goat<\/em><\/a>\u00a0sculpture.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/goat-sculpture-spitalfields-02.jpg\" alt=\"It's a goat. On a pile of boxes. In Spitalfields, London\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The winner of a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/londonist.com\/2010\/01\/vote_a_new_sculpture_for_spitalfiel.php\">\u00a345,000 sculpture design competition<\/a>, the thing looks like a fun and\u00a0cheerful addition to the city landscape to my eyes, but the sculptor prefers to describe\u00a0it in rather more <em>high fallutin&#8217;<\/em> terms:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The goat stands as a symbol for the various waves of migration that have found sanctuary in Spitalfields and helped to shape it. The goat, as an image of persecution and sacrifice, reflects how each successive group of immigrants have faced their own combination of conflict, oppression and poverty, all eventually finding a new home in London. The crates on which it stands reference the market as well as the ongoing history of transience and human flux.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, whatever.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the\u00a0sculpture\u00a0was erected in\u00a0October 2010 and has a scheduled stay of 18 months.
