{"id":593,"date":"2006-02-28T17:04:00","date_gmt":"2006-02-28T17:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=593"},"modified":"2012-09-12T22:07:15","modified_gmt":"2012-09-12T21:07:15","slug":"593","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/593\/","title":{"rendered":"Pancake flippin\u2019-tastic!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pancake flippin&#8217;-tastic!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/pancake.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much whiskin&#8217;, flippin&#8217; and scoffin&#8217; went on today at Chez Urban as we indulged ourselves in Pancake Day.<\/p>\n<p>Shrove Tuesday (the day before Lent) has been celebrated for centuries in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The tradition comes from strict Christian Lenten rules which prohibited the eating of all dairy products, so folks used up their supplies of eggs, milk, butter and other fats in a great pancake feast before Lent.<\/p>\n<p>Early English recipes used wheaten flour, eggs, butter or lard, a liquid (water, milk, ale or wine) and flavourings such as white or brown sugar, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, or ginger), orange flower water, scented sugars or liqueurs.<\/p>\n<p>But for today, we stuffed our faces with pancakes sprinked with maple syrup and lemon.
