{"id":599,"date":"2006-02-22T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2006-02-22T01:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=599"},"modified":"2006-02-22T01:56:00","modified_gmt":"2006-02-22T01:56:00","slug":"599","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/599\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>A Saturday in London<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A few snaps taken with a Ricoh GR Digital camera (currently on loan for review) on a winter&#8217;s afternoon walk around central London.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/images\/feb06_01.jpg\" title=\"A walk around London and the Southbank\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>At Trafalgar Sq there was a demonstration being held against the publication of the infamous &#8216;cartoons&#8217;. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/images\/feb06_02.jpg\" title=\"A walk around London and the Southbank\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>The beautiful interior of St Mary Le Strand &#8211; a gorgeous church marooned on a traffic island on The Strand.<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stmarylestrand.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">St Mary le Strand website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/images\/feb06_03.jpg\" title=\"A walk around London and the Southbank\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>The Roman&#8217; baths at 5 Strand Lane, WC2. An obscure National Trust property hidden away off the main drag, the baths that lurk behind the window as described by the NT as, &#8220;Remains of a bath &#8211; possibly Roman. Restored in the 17th century, believed to hold Roman origins&#8221;<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/main\/w-vh\/w-visits\/w-findaplace\/w-romanbath\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Trust<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/images\/feb06_04.jpg\" title=\"A walk around London and the Southbank\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>Inside the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern. This piece by Rachel Whiteread is entitled EMBANKMENT and made from 14,000 casts of the inside of different boxes, stacked high. <\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s it mean? Well, here&#8217;s what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/modern\/exhibitions\/whiteread\/default.shtm\" target=\"_blank\">Tate website<\/a> says, &#8220;The form of a cardboard box has been chosen because of its associations with the storage of intimate personal items and to invoke the sense of mystery surrounding ideas of what a sealed box might contain.&#8221; Err, right.
