{"id":6,"date":"2010-03-07T23:25:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-07T23:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=6"},"modified":"2010-03-14T16:40:23","modified_gmt":"2010-03-14T16:40:23","slug":"windrush-square-new-public-square-in-brixton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/windrush-square-new-public-square-in-brixton\/","title":{"rendered":"Windrush Square: new public square in Brixton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Used for sheep pasture until the end of the 19th Century, the space in front of Brixton Tate library was purchased by Sir Henry Tate&#8217;s widow and donated to the public in 1905 (eight years after the library was built).<\/p>\n<p>Originally known as the Brixton Oval, and then Tate Gardens, its new name of Windrush Square was decided upon after local residents, businesses and organisations were given a small selection to choose from.
