{"id":66680,"date":"2026-06-06T07:00:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T06:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/?p=66680"},"modified":"2026-06-05T22:09:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:09:00","slug":"a-walk-around-the-va-east-museum-and-olympic-park-east-london-picture-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/a-walk-around-the-va-east-museum-and-olympic-park-east-london-picture-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"A walk around the V&#038;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London &#8211; picture gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-01.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Late last year, I enjoyed a visit to the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/view-floors-of-wonderful-treasures-at-the-remarkable-va-east-storehouse-in-hackney-wick-london-28-photos\/\">V&amp;A East Storehouse in Hackney Wick<\/a>, and recently I headed east again to check out the latest addition to the museum&#8217;s growing empire, the V&amp;A East Museum.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-02.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But first, I took a walk through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, heading north from the wonderfully named Pudding Mill Lane.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-03.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Towering over the horizon was the ArcelorMittal Orbit, a 114.5-metre (376-foot) sculpture and observation tower which is Britain&#8217;s largest piece of public art.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also a permanent lasting legacy of London hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Do you like it? I&#8217;m pretty indifferent to it myself.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-04.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The City Mill River winds through the park, flanked by the River Lea to the west and the Waterworks River to the east.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-05.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You get the feeling that it won&#8217;t be long before luxury flats start populating this area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-08.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit of an eyesore really,\u00a0 although it might be fun to whizz along the &#8216;world&#8217;s longest tunnel slide&#8217;\u00a0 that starts from the observation tower.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-12.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-14.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a weird kind of museum, where what appears to be entirely random objects are placed next to each other.<\/p>\n<p>I gave up trying to find a narrative and just tried to enjoy each piece as a standalone artwork.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-15.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-17.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London - picture gallery\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ah, I remember it well.<\/p>\n<p>These were the glory days when leftie Londoners could regularly enjoy free festivals like the much missed Urban Free Festival in Deptford [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/protest\/deptford01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see photos from the 1995 festival here<\/a>] and the wonderful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/london\/reclaim.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reclaim The Beach parties<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/pics\/vanda-olympic-park-21.jpg\" alt=\"A walk around the V&amp;A East Museum and Olympic Park, east London -
