{"id":678,"date":"2005-05-28T20:10:00","date_gmt":"2005-05-28T20:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=678"},"modified":"2010-03-30T01:10:27","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T01:10:27","slug":"678","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/678\/","title":{"rendered":"Offline, Tom Robinson, Fierce Festival and Bonnington Cafe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Long overdue updates (part one): Offline, Tom Robinson, Fierce Festival and Bonnington Cafe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>26th May, Offline Club with Tom Robinson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/images\/offline16_10.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was hectic as usual, but in the end Offline went brilliantly: our special guest Tom Robinson (new wave legend from the seminal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomrobinson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Robinson Band<\/a>) put in a fantastic set.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/images\/offline16_22.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seeing the whole Dogstar singing along to &#8220;2-4-6-8 Motorway&#8221; was odd enough, but hearing the place ringing to the chorus of &#8220;Glad To Be Gay&#8221; was positively surreal!<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the acts were fabulous too, ranging from the Asian hip hop of Graziella to the deep southern experimental sound of Duke Garwood.<\/p>\n<p>Vic&#8217;s Cabaret Corner was a hit too, with top sets from Yap, Other Theresa and Ryan The Poet<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/offline\/offline16.html\" target=\"_blank\">Offline photo report<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>21st May, Fierce Festival, Birmingham<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man, this was fun!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/birmingham\/images\/fierce21.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were invited up to review this alternative, experimental performance arts festival and had a great time.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights were witnessing a geezer living in a giant-size swallow&#8217;s nest 30m up the side of the Rotunda and an evening of world class cabaret entertainment from the fabulous Duckie Crew.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/photos\/birmingham\/images\/fierce15.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;C&#8217;est Birmingham&#8217; cabaret involved a variety of, frankly, bonkers acts performing on tables in exchange for &#8216;Duckie Dollars&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>One act was a tuba-playing northern rapper. &#8216;Nuff said.
