{"id":757,"date":"2004-08-05T13:51:00","date_gmt":"2004-08-05T13:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=757"},"modified":"2010-05-17T23:31:21","modified_gmt":"2010-05-17T22:31:21","slug":"757","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/757\/","title":{"rendered":"Cartier Bresson dies and I get drunk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Cartier Bresson dies and I get drunk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, one of the world&#8217;s greatest photographers,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.photology.com\/bresson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Henri Cartier-Bresson<\/a>, died.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve long been a fan of his incredible photos which have both inspired and depressed me. &#8216;Inspired&#8217; because of the amazing composition, spontaneity and style and &#8216;depressed&#8217; because they&#8217;re so fucking good!<\/p>\n<p>He used no flash, no tripod, no wideangle lens, no zoom lens and no cropping. And all the photos were taken on a Leica rangefinder camera (covered in black tape to make it less obtrusive).<\/p>\n<p>Whenever I start to think I&#8217;ve got the hang of this reportage photography thang, a quick flick through one of his books brings me right down to earth.<\/p>\n<p>I may be slowly acquiring a flotilla of fancy lens, but he was a genius and I&#8217;m still a fumbling wannabe with a lot to learn&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Still, I managed to toast the fella many, many times last night with an alcoholic fuelled evening at the Albert and the Dogstar.<\/p>\n<p>And now my head hurts&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cartier Bresson dies and I get drunk Yesterday, one of the world&#8217;s greatest photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, died.
