Occupying the former entrance to the Midland Grand Hotel, a trip through the revolving door –\u00a0one of the very first\u00a0in the UK – takes you into the\u00a0sumptuous\u00a0interior of the\u00a0Bar at The Gilbert Scott<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Named after the hotel’s chief architect,\u00a0\u00a0Sir George Gilbert Scott, the 135 year old building hosts a swishy new\u00a0restaurant run by Michelin starred chef Marcus Wareing.<\/p>\n

The 120-seater British brasserie comes with its own bar, and we popped in to sample some of the cocktails which were, as you might expect,\u00a0absolutely\u00a0ruddy lovely.<\/p>\n

It’s not cheap mind, but the service was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere seductive and plush, and the\u00a0constantly\u00a0refilled cup of buttered pepper\u00a0popcorn was truly\u00a0delicious.<\/p>\n

It’s a wonderful place to treat yourself or go for a romantic interlude.<\/p>\n

Before the restoration:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was good to revisit the hotel and see it in such fine shape – I’d previously visited in June and November 2003 when most of the building was in a state of dilapidation.<\/p>\n
