I’m not\u00a0entirely\u00a0sure what this white bear-like thing was supposed to be doing. I watched him for a while trying to attract the attention of passers-by, most of whom swiftly moved on.<\/p>\n

The church’s name comes from when it was\u00a0rebuilt by Henry VIII in 1542 to avoid plague victims from the area having to pass through his Palace of Whitehall. Back then, the church was literally\u00a0“in the fields,” standing in an isolated position between the cities of Westminster and London.<\/p>\n

The current impressive church building was\u00a0completed\u00a0in 1724,\u00a0although\u00a0the first recorded reference to a church on this site dates\u00a0from 1222.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
