{"id":811,"date":"2004-04-30T00:02:00","date_gmt":"2004-04-30T00:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.urban75.org\/u75blog\/?p=811"},"modified":"2010-06-04T01:58:05","modified_gmt":"2010-06-04T00:58:05","slug":"811","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/811\/","title":{"rendered":"A toast to Internet Magazine RIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A toast to Internet Magazine RIP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urban75.org\/blog\/images\/internet1.jpg\" alt=\"Internet Magazine farewell drink\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tonight, I ventured north to the <a href=\"http:\/\/home.btclick.com\/plumpromotions\/generalb.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Betsy Trotwood <\/a> pub in Farringdon to bid farewell to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internet-magazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Internet Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The magazine&#8217;s been going since 1994 (it was just three months off its 10th anniversary)  and was always a great source of inspiration and enjoyment for me.<\/p>\n<p>I was lucky enough to be invited to write for them in 1998, and since then have been writing reviews, features and &#8216;expert helps&#8217; for the mag &#8211; and enjoyed every minute of it.<\/p>\n<p>What made the magazine stand out was its sense of &#8216;family&#8217;: it may have been owned by a hard-nosed, uber-corporate, but the vibe amongst its writers, producers and freelancers was warm, friendly and honest.<\/p>\n<p>So tonight, the current staff, ex-writers, friends and freelancers gathered for one last drink as the last Internet Magazine <em>ever<\/em> was put to bed.<\/p>\n<p>Although the beers were free and the company first-rate, I can&#8217;t shake off a lingering melancholy and a sense of frustration and anger that such a good mag should bite the dust &#8211; even when it wasn&#8217;t losing money. That&#8217;s the big bad world of corporate finance for you.  \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>Goodbye Internet Magazine: you&#8217;ll be missed. And best wishes for the future for my mates who now find themselves out of a job.
