To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the charity ChildLine, BT have\u00a0commissioned\u00a0artists and\u00a0designers to turn their talents to the iconic\u00a0red telephone box as\u00a0part of the BT Artbox project.<\/p>\n

Designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the\u00a0original K6 box was\u00a0introduced in 1936 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the coronation of King George V and is still a familiar sight on Britain’s streets.<\/p>\n

BT commissioned more than 80 leading talents – including Sir Peter Blake, Zaha Hadid and Giles Deacon – and asked them to\u00a0redesign Gilbert Scott’s wonderful\u00a0creation.<\/p>\n

Happily,\u00a0original\u00a0K6 boxes\u00a0weren’t\u00a0used for this project, with the artists applying their skills to nearly 100 full-size, fibre-glass replicas that have been positioned around public spaces in London.<\/p>\n

The project aims to raise \u00a31 million for the ChildLine charity, and the boxes will be on view until the 16th July, after\u00a0which\u00a0they will be auctioned.<\/p>\n
