There’s usually an\u00a0interesting\u00a0collection of \u00a0modern sculpture to be found on display in Berkeley Square, central London, and I liked this rather creepy, swirling faceless nun\u00a0which\u00a0can currently be seen in the park.<\/p>\n

I’m not entirely sure what I make of this piece by\u00a0acclaimed sculptor Jeff Lowe, which is being displayed as\u00a0part of the City of Westminster\u2019s celebration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics.<\/p>\n

At first I thought it was a stage in the process of being erected, but Lowe offers his own insights into the work:<\/p>\n

The sculpture engages the viewer on an architectural scale. \u00a0Working with inside and outside, volume and space and the physical relationship between the spectator and the object. \u00a0The sculpture has both volumetric and cage like elements, which are combined to create both image and experience.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A more tradition\u00a0sculpture\u00a0can be seen at the\u00a0entrance\u00a0to the park, in the form of the\u00a0\u00a0Nymph statue by Alexander Munro, erected in 1858.<\/p>\n

Berkeley Square<\/a> is named after the noble Gloucestershire family of the same name whose London home, Berkeley House, had stood nearby until 1733. The townhouse had served as their London residence when they were away from their ancestral home in Gloucestershire, Berkeley Castle.<\/p>\n

Number 50 Berkeley Square is said to be the most haunted house in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t find any info\u00a0about\u00a0this intriguing \u00a0work on-line. Anyone know who it’s by and what it represents?<\/p>\n

Update:<\/strong> thanks to the thread on urban75<\/a>, I’ve discovered that the work is called Gale Force Nun II<\/a> and is by Philip Jackson.<\/p>\n
