Last night, the brightest light in the sky was the pinky red glow of Mars<\/a>, which is now closer to Earth than at any time in almost 60,000 years.<\/p>\n

I’m an old enough bastard to remember the Apollo missions and can recall the excitement of looking up to the Moon and knowing that at that very moment<\/em>, there were astronauts roaming its surface.<\/p>\n

I was so excited by space travel that I wrote off to NASA and they sent back a big glossy pack of photos with some literature predicting that by 2000 there’d be humans stomping all over the surface of the planet. So what happened?!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
