Seen half way up a wall in Meard Street, Soho, can be seen a sculpted stone nose, one of several to be found around the city.<\/p>\n

A total of seven noses can apparently be found on buildings scattered around Soho, with many being created by sculptor Rick Buckley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The artist left casts of his own hooter on London walls back in the late 1990s as a protest at the rise of the “Big Brother” society\u00a0[source<\/a>].<\/p>\n

Many noses have since\u00a0sniffed\u00a0their last, but it seems survivors have been spotted in places like Dean Street, Endell Street and Bateman Street, as well as a non-Soho variant on Admiralty Arch.<\/p>\n

However, the one in Meard Street is a more recent effort,\u00a0dating from a 2005 \u2018Living Streets<\/a>\u2019 social awareness project, which\u00a0saw street items like paving stones and signs “talking” back to passers-by, with the nose issuing a sneezing sound.<\/p>\n
