Situated between Gresham Road and Barrington Road and located in an old warehouse is Brixton East, a privately owned but accessible gallery space and labour of love from its owner.<\/p>\n

Named Brixton East – perhaps after the nearby, long closed railway station<\/a> – the\u00a0warehouse\u00a0covers three floors and has been\u00a0meticulously restored and rebuilt\u00a0to provide a\u00a0fabulously\u00a0large and uncluttered space.<\/p>\n

I went along to the opening night of a new exhibition called ‘Bad Behaviour’\u00a0showing off the work of new and established Brixton\u00a0artists\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Unlike some of the recent\u00a0developments\u00a0around town (I’m looking at you Brick Box), it was great to see something that felt really inclusive and open to the community, a fact reflected by the amount of familiar faces inside.<\/p>\n

\"East<\/p>\n

The owner says that he\u00a0intends\u00a0to open up the exhibition to visitors on weekends, and has plans to let more artists and local kids get involved with the space.\u00a0They also hold big jumble sales from time to time and they usually happen over weekends too.<\/p>\n

Brixton East had a bit of the old Cooltan<\/a> vibe about it – and that’s about as high as my praise can get!<\/p>\n

Brixton East is at 71 Gresham Road, Brixton, London SW9 7NS, just off Coldharbour Lane.<\/p>\n
