I’m thinking of my friends in New York tonight as Hurricane Sandy heads inland. Vast chunks of New York have closed down, and there’s already been severe flooding around New Jersey.<\/p>\n

In New York, around 375,000 residents have been ordered to leave lower Manhattan as the banks of the Hudson and East rivers began overflowing.<\/p>\n

At 00:52 my friend Jim in NYC reported:<\/p>\n

Total blackout at least in my area anyway. The electrical station a block away just went boom in a bright explosion of blue lights 10 minutes ago. Pitch black now. Creepy. Very very quiet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
