York photos: architecture, city walls, river scenes, night views and the Monochrome Set

Veritably dripping in history, York is a beautiful, tourist-luring walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England.

Founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD, York grew as a major wool trading centre, became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England and established itself as a vital railway hub in the 19th century.

I visited the city earlier this year while on tour with The Monochrome Set. Here’s some photos from my wanders around town:

A summer downpour.

On the city wall.

The band was playing The Crescent, a wonderful community venue.

Yorkshire skateboard next to the nuts.

Boneless fish. With bones.

Night scenes.

Kebab time.

The picturesque Fossgate.

The Cosy Club inhabits York’s first purpose built cinema, The Electric Theatre, on Fossgate.
