Sailors' Snug Harbor, Staten Island, NYC

Sailors' Snug Harbor & Staten Island

When we were in New York last month, we took the free ferry out of Manhattan to Staten Island and braved an icy walk to visit the Sailors' Snug Harbor - an old institute for 'aged, decrepit and worn-out sailors.'

The site - which was nearly flattened in the 60s - now serves as a Culture Centre, and is a fun place to visit. We had a fantastic meal in the cafe below.

We also took a walk around Staten Island, which has its pretty and its not-so-pretty parts.
