OFFLINE #58, Launch Party at the Dogstar Brixton
Thursday, 9th April 2009

This was the biggest party in town, with *three* rooms and two floors of non stop fun to celebrate Offline's return to the Dogstar. We put together a sensational live bill of 40 samba drummers, all-girl go-go dancing gangs, hip-hop, knees-up punk-folk and full-on Ramones rock'n'roll, plus a full cabaret bill with comedy and poetry, the legendary Craft Corner and a ton of top DJs. It was unbelievably packed!

A tequila shot of cheeky Cockney charm and boozed up punk rock infused with old-skool hip-hop, Milk Kan are a perfect fit for the lively, rambunctious crowd at Offline. BARKING BATERIA
Don't miss this one! An electrifying feast of dancefloor-erupting Brazilian samba, delivered in a unique Bhangra, Funk and Drum 'n' Bass style will turn the club into an instant Brixton carnival. Expect up to 40 drummers and get ready to shake your booty harder than it's ever been shaken before - they tore the place apart when they played Offline last June!

I WANNA BE SEDATED
Mixing up the sound of the Lower East Side with a Coldharbour Lane twist, these Brixton rockers will be dishing up a feast of Ramones tunes at their punk rock finest. Expect drunken 'Gabba Gabba Hey' chants, dancing Pinheads and a room full of joyous 'Hey Ho, Let's Go!' singalongs. Dig out your battered leather jacket and join the mosh pit.

LADY LYKEZ
An exciting young Hip Hop/Grime UK female artist with a rising reputation, Lady Lykez appeared on the London Urban Collective III ATL album ('rough edged grime and hip-hop with often wise and witty wordplay' - DJ magazine) before storming the notorious Club Apache open mic night in Atlanta, USA.
She recently completed an album in Mali, Africa with Akala, Bashy, Kele Le Roc, Silverstone for 'Routes to Rootz' funded by Bigga Fish and she's now back in the UK and ready to showcase her unique sound, "echoing the distinctive UK take of an artist like Dizzee Rascal mixed with the vocal dexterity and off kilter song structures of Missy Elliot."

THE ACTIONETTES
A ballroom blitzkrieg of shimmying, sparkling, synchronised routines from this all-girl dance troupe, kicking their shiny white boots to 60s girl group classics. As seen on Charlie Brooker's TV show and BBC2's Culture Show, these stars of Ladyfest 2008 are not to be missed!

A massive hit at the last Offline, Craft Corner serves up a hands-on feast of glitter, sticky-back plastic, toilet rolls, empty detergent bottles, PVA glue and other messy stuff for big kids to get creative. Think: Blue Peter on Absinthe.

With more pop than a fridge of rola cola you'll be hard pushed not to get out of your seat and shuffle like an idiot to her bright DJ bag of joy full of indie, electro and party tunes.

DUBVERSION (People's Republic of Disco)
Takes pride in having no skills but lots of tunes. From dub to country to gospel and most points in between.

THE REVD & BLUESTREAK (the immortal Beyond Fathomability Soundsystem)
East London, all-vinyl soundsystem playing breaks, bass, reggae, soul, dubstep, bastard pop, and charity shop oddments.

Laying down the country bass in your face

MAGGOT
Throwing down a dance floor stinger with a white hot set of funk, soul, disco and indie.
