Paris 2001: street photography, shopfronts, protests and signs, May 2001

Here’s a random selection of photos taken on the streets of Paris in 2001 – blimey, that’s a quarter of a century ago!

The photos were taken on a  Sony Cybershot DSC-F55E camera, which served up a mighty 2.1MP of resolution.

Midnight train.

Bar scene.

The infamous and universally loathed Tour Montparnasse tower.

Parisians joke that the tower’s observation deck offers the most beautiful view in all of Paris because it’s the only place where you can’t see the tower.

Street protest.

Signs and traffic lights.

On the metro.

Fun fact: the term “metro” used globally for underground railways derives directly from London’s Metropolitan Railway, which opened in 1863.

Metro scene.

Dog in a bag.

Street performers

The former Le Berry cinema.

We got to climb this tower.

And the view from the top.
