St Michael's Mount This dramatic, part-time island is dominated by a castellated building which has served as a monastery, castle-under-siege and a prison. Only accessible at low tide, the Mount id dedicated to St Michael after claims of miraculous sightings of the saint by 5th Century fisherman. I blame the monk's mead myself.
