We didn’t really expect to find too much happening on a November Monday night in Edinburgh, but the city proved us wrong and delivered a blooming marvellous night out. Booze was drunk, bands were listened to and new friends were made.

The first stop was the Black Bull on Grassmarket, where Graeme  E Pearson was banging out Scottish tunes with gusto and panache.

A natural entertainer, he quickly united the smallish crowd into an all-singing and all-shouting party gang, with the Proclaimers going down particularly well. He was very entertaining indeed.

Next stop was the Oz Bar, a short walk up the hill at 33 Candlemaker Row, EH1. We loved this bar.

Lively and with super friendly customers and staff, it was a great place to knock back a few shots and chew the fat with locals.

He was actually a lot more friendly than he looked!

An entirely different sort of bar awaited us next, as a 5 min walk away was the folkie Royal Oak in Infirmary Street.

People sat round listening to acoustic music or just joined in. It was lovely.

The final destination was The Jazz Bar on Chambers Street where entrance was a mere £1 and the band were still playing at 2.30am.
