Don't let them turn the August Bank Holiday Monday into bloody Margaret Thatcher Day

Of all the stupid ideas the slimy Tories have oozed out recently, this latest madcap scheme to rename the August Bank Holiday Monday as ‘Margaret Thatcher Day’ has to rank as one the most crass, loathsome and offensive.

Proposed in a private members bill introduced by a cabal of Tory fuckwits led by Peter Bone MP,  the bill will begin its second reading next month – but opposition is mounting to the idea.

An an e-petition opposing the renaming was set up earlier this week by Alan Jones, and it has already been signed by 34,000 people.

The text of the petition says:

We oppose the poposal to change the August Bank Holday to Margaret Thatcher Day

We do not believe that the August Bank Holiday should be renamed Margaret Thatcher Day as we believe that there are much worthier historical figures who have done more good for the people of Britain, for example Winston Churchill and are less divisive a public figure.

If more than 100,000 signatures are reached by the 8th of July 2014, then the issue will be considered for debate in Parliament.

  1. Why include a suggestion that ANY other name should be used.. Whos idea was that for the petitikn. It shd be left as it is . August Bank Holiday.

  2. And this the woman that had Jimmy Savile at Chequers every Christmas do me a favor, This is such a ill conceived idea, lets hope it goes no further. I am outraged anyone with a brain cell could propose such an idea. I agree with Stuart why suggest anyone else, just keep it as the August Bank Holiday, as it has always been.
