A walk from Tyneham to Worbarrow Bay
The windiest walk we've ever been on!

An extra breezy stroll from the abandoned village of Tyneham to the gorgeous Worbarrow Bay.
Heading north out of the village towards Whiteway Hill. Note the yellow markers to remind walkers to stay to the path - with unexploded bombs everywhere, a wander off-path may not be the greatest idea.
Looking back at the village.
The coastline and Worbarrow Tout in the distance (tout = a lookout).
The surrounding countryside has been more or less untouched for half a century. br>
Looking north from the top of Whiteway Hill on the Purbeck Hills.
Things were getting mighty windy along the ledge.
Lulworth Castle in the distance.
Looking over Worbarrow Bay. The wind was so strong, it was hard to stay on this bench for more than a few moments.
Happily, the wind was blasting inland, so there was no prospect of some of our smaller members being whisked into the raging briny below!
Looking west towards Mupe Rocks.
Worbarrow Bay below. I wouldn't have fancied being stationed at this windy lookout post during the war - it must have been indescribably cold in the winter!
Getting ready for the descent.
Battling the wind.
It's a very steep - and unbelievably windy - route down to Worbarrow Bay below.
First man down!
The wind was so strong, that it was easy to be blown over.
Battling the gale force winds!
Near the bottom of the hill.
Worbarrow Tout.
Scattered all over the countryside are these large numbers, used for gunnery practice.
The beach and Worbarrow Tout.
There's some interesting and unique geology to be found in the area. Find out more here: Worbarrow Bay - Field Guide by Dr. Ian West
The beach at Worbarrow Bay was beautiful.
Now unceremoniously used as a rubbish bin, this was one of nearly 200 'Allen-Williams Steel Turrets' installed in the area during WW2.
Here's how the thing would have been used.
Another abandoned building.
Tyneham Gwyle, a wooded glen close to the village, and my last pic before we headed back to London, still chuffed that the forecasted torrents of rain never appeared for the entire weekend!
