Leigh On Sea in photos: the folk festival and views around the town

We recently paid another visit to Leigh-on-Sea and after photographing people playing in a vast sea of mud, we climbed a mountain of stairs to take a walk around the town centre.

Full house at the bar by the seafront.

Ring for ice creams.

Looking back towards the railway station in the Old Town.

Fish’n’chips and a fag. Sorted.

This Old Town pub gets its name from the slang term ‘snack’ for an old fishing boat that apparently, “sneaks through the water like a snake.”

On the left can be seen old the Leigh-on-Sea railway station building which opened on July 1, 1855, and is now used by sailing club.

The original station closed in 1934 and was replaced by a modern station some 880 yards to the west.

Inside the Fishermen’s Chapel, a music, arts and community-based venue in Old Leigh.

Tilbury Docks in the distance.

To get to the town centre from the Old Town you have a to climb a lot of stairs.

Mud, sea and industry.

The Leigh on Sea folk festival took place in multiple venues across the town, with the focus being Leigh Library Gardens, where there were multiple stages, a bar and stalls.

It wouldn’t be a British festival without a bit of rain.

Looking out across the Thames estuary.

Incredibly, you can see the towers of Canary Wharf and the Shard from Leigh on Sea, some 34 miles distant.
