Stop the Cuts rally, London and Fireman's strike

A few days after the government announced massive spending cuts, a rally was held at Congress House, central London to mobilise opposition .

The Tory chancellor, George Osborne, wants to see cuts of £81 billion, which would result in the loss of hundreds of thousands of  public sector jobs.

The rally coincided with a strike by the Fire Brigade Union, who had gone out after the London Fire Brigade formally began the legal process of terminating the employment contracts of 5,600 London firefighters.

Sporting a natty hat, Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union general secretary Bob Crow was in fine form and richly deserved the standing ovation at the end of his impassioned speech.
